Went home for lunch and had fun in the studio (it's fun when you actually produce something good, it's hell when you don't, which is most of the time). On my back five sketches I hit paydirt:
Playing with early morning light and hit on that gray dawn effect where the sun just creeps over the horizon and hits the ridges, and, in this case a lone rider. Started on a larger study of this effect and I'll post those results when I get it completed. Also, worked on another dream sequence:
He dreamed of a face in the clouds with one gleaming eye. He dreamed of the face chasing him. And he dreamed of searching the sky and seeing flying fish:
According to Tom Horn, Apaches didn't like fish, never ate them. In fact, he claimed they didn't even like to be in water because it was home to their creepy, scales. No wonder a certain one-eyed captivo has nightmares about flyinig fish!
Yesterday Patty and Frank Fara came by and shared with me a new album by Frank called "Songs of the Untamed West." Very cool songs on Custer, the Daltons, Pancho Villa, Tombstone and Charming Billy. They used one of my paintings of Billy for the Charming Billy CD. They're getting airplay in Japan and Europe. Amazing. I have an extra CD if you want one.
