It's a week long birthday celebration, so I took Carole Glenn and Kathy Radina out for a birthday lunch at Saba's in Carefree today. Fun time. Laughed it up with my two ex-roomies.
Came back to the office and finished today's sketches. I'm building on the sepia wash background technique, then building on that with a red felt tip pen bringing out the shapes, and finishing with a dash of black felt tip pen:
I think it's the best effect yet for a graphic novel about the Greatest Western Story Never Told. Also not a bad place to be at 9,000 sketches, and counting. I really want to lean on the last 1,000 in the sense that I want to push my skills to the highest standard I can muster.
Watch me fail (that's a given), but watch me keep at it until I succeed.
I may get back one of my favorite paintings. It sold several years ago at the Legacy Gallery and I could have sold it four more times. It's in Classic Gunfights, Volume II, The 25 Gunfights Behind The O.K. Corral and it's called the "Bisbee Stage Robbery":
"Some things you have to do every day. Eating seven apples on Saturday night instead of one a day just isn't going to get the job done."
