August 10, 2009
Worked most of the weekend on a possible cover piece for our art issue. Did a bunch of sketches (at least 20) of Billy looming over New Mexico like a rock star cyclops playing air Winchester:

Yes, those are crosses in the foreground, a la Ansel Adams. Also cranked out a more realistic version:

Somewhere between the two is where I want to be.

Finally saw The Bicycle Thief (1948) last night. It's one of those classic films that everyone references. It's supposedly the first of the school of neo-realism. Quite strong storytelling. I totally get why it's referenced constantly.

On my way this morning with Dan the Man Harshberger to Kingman for a lunchean to honor the Exits Exit. We raised $20K from our March benefit concert to buy over a dozen defibrillators for Mohave County. Coming back tonight. Then off to New Mexico tomorrow to deliver the Brother In Arms Billy and Pat Garrett painting to the museum in Ruidoso.

Kind of afraid regarding the cover painting. Gee, I wonder what ol' onery Henri (pronounced Hon-Ray, or Hon-Rie) has to say about this:

"A person who has never been afraid has no imagination."
—Robert Henri
