For the past two years I have been compiling scratchboard portraits of frontier females for our forthcoming "Real Women of The Wild West" book. Over the weekend I started rounding them all up and I was somewhat shocked to realize there are close to 100. This morning I narrowed those down and scanned 28 of them specifically for usage in the book and as I was scanning them I realized I knew almost every single one of them. Some I went to school with, some I am related to, some are friends and a few I have been intimately involved with. Perhaps the names I gave each scratchboard will give you a clue as to which category they fall in my memory bank (which by the way, is overdrawn, literally!).
Daily Scratchboard Whip Out:
"The Pot Stirrer"
"Tears for A Clown"
"Miss Snot-Nosed Determination"
"The Cook"
"The Flirt"
"The Mistress"
"The Showoff"
"The Smoker"
"The Wise Ass"
(also known in my day
as "The Backtalker")
"Little Miss Hysterical"
(also known as The Saint of Hysteria")
"She Makes Darkness Into Light"
If you recognize yourself in here, please don't call your lawyer. I promise to disguise your looks before the book goes to press.
