A couple days ago I Googled Dave Sim to see if I could catch up on his career and thank him for inspiring me to do six sketches a day. In the eighties he and I exchanged comics. I sent him Honkytonk Sue and he sent me his creation Cerebus. I sent him all four of my comics and he sent me all 300 of his. Wasn't a very fair trade but Dave never complained.

Dave can be a cranky guy. Although he's maybe ten years younger than me, he doesn't have a computer, he lives in Canada, and he refused to promote his latest book on the holocaust, "Judenhass," because he deemed it in bad taste. Promotion, that is. It's too bad, the book looks absolutely stunning (Dave is a master cartoonist and has won almost every award a cartoonist can win). I ordered a copy off his website.

And, since he doesn't have a computer I sent him an old-fashioned packet via snail mail:

In the packet I included a Mickey Free issue so Dave can see what I've been up to, and I also thanked him for the quote, "Every artist has 10,000 bad drawings in him," and told him how I will give him his due (blame) in the book.
