I'm in Cochise County in an undisclosed hotel. Deena and Thomas and I just returned from Naco, Sonora, Mexico where we had fantastic chile rellenos and red burros at the Restaurant del Centro ($14, the peso is 12 to one, U.S. right now). Walked back across the border about seven and landed at the Gay 90's Bar on the Arizona side. How could you not check out a bar with that name? I told the kids, "Hey, that is what they called the 1890s." Neither of my offspring were aware of this. Turns out the owners have had the name since the 1930s and although they've been tempted to change the name, they have remained true to the legacy. Watched part of the Colts-Tennesse NFL game and had a Dos Equis. Tomas played the Beatles' "Maybe You Can Drive My Car" on the juke box. Hard not to have fun with that tune pumping into the room.
We just did the Jeff Kidder vs. Naco Policia for the next Classic Gunfight (it's at the printer in Kansas City). It was almost exactly 100 years ago that the Arizona Ranger (Kidder) bought the farm, very near where the restuarant is. As we walked along the fence, I thought of Jeff and sent him a little smile.
Going to meet the Vendetta Ride riders at 8:30 in the morning at Fourth and Allen to give a walking tour of Tombstone. Then it's off to Nogales and La Roca, with a stop in Patagonia at the Velvet Elvis Cafe (once again, how could you not stop at a cafe with that name?).
