When I went for a walk with Weston last weekend, there was this big flock of very loud birds that flew overhead. It's probably an urban legend but the locals in Pasadena claim a pet store burned down and all the parrots got loose and started breeding in the wild. Check out these Mad Parrots of Pasadena!
The Mad Parrots of Pasadena
If you've ever wondered what it's like to run a magazine or how crazy my personal life is, be sure to read the behind-the-scenes peek at the daily trials and tribulations of running True West. Culled straight from my Franklin Daytimer, it contains actual journal entries, laid out raw and uncensored. Some of it is enlightening. Much of it is embarrassing, but all of it is painfully true. That's a bogus legend. Green parrots are native to CA and I have flocks that fly over my house on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of parrots are they? In NYC there's a story---true, no bogus legend---of parrots that got loose at JFK Airport in Queens. This happened about 25 years ago. Now there are flocks of parrots all over Queens and Brooklyn. They make nests between the strut supports for air conditioners on apartment houses, and above utility poles. They squawk loudly as they fly overhead, but seldom land when people are around. Some live on my block and across the street. They are called Quaker Parrots or Monk Parakeets and are two shades of green. They are originally from South America, but are able to survive the harsh NY winters. It's a wonder Donald Trump hasn't spoken out against them!
