Daily Whip Out: "Badges From The Side?"
Who Put The Kicks In 66?
And, believe it or not, here is the young lady who came up with the catchy refrain, "Get your kicks on Route 66":

Yes, it was this young and rebellious society girl, Cynthia Hare, who landed a job as the "dancing debutante" at the Embassy Hotel in Philadelphia where she met one of the house musicians Bobby Troup. They fell in love and got married. He was a songwriter and already had a hit with "Daddy" before the war.

After the war, in 1946, they decided to motor west and on the trip, she suggested he write a song about Highway 40, but Bobby dismissed that idea because he told her they were going to be on Route 66 most of the way, so she thought for a moment, then leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Get your kicks on Route 66" Baby, and he liked that idea!
"If you ever plan on motoring west, take my way the highway that's the best. . ."
—Bobby Troup, "Route 66"
