I finished the Larry McMurtry biography this morning, so the man and the myths he played with are on my mind.

The Questionable Legend of La Gata!
South of Bacanora, Sonora, a young campesina struck terror into the hearts of rico hacendados and gringo mining engineers all over El Norte. Her real name has been lost to history but she was known far and wide as La Gata!

While some have questioned whether this Mexican cowgirl ever actually existed, a former Kingman cartoonist swears she's the real deal even though the accompanying illustration was used to illustrate a Coors beer can promotion a quarter century ago.
Thus is history written. And, rewritten.
"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
