Get The Story Right Pommel Pistol Dude

 August 15, 2023

Still enjoying all the laughing—and singing—vaqueros I am finding.

Another stunning sunrise, another yawn from Uno.

I swear this is a different sunrise and I'm not making him do this. He sees me pull out my phone and he just sits down and starts yawning.  Go figure.

Today is my mother's birthday. She was the real deal.

We've been rewatching the National Parks: America's Best Idea documentary by Ken Burns. Really excellent. Had to shoot a photo right off the screen of this guy.

National Park Doc Pommel Pistol Dude

I dig the 'tude and the gear. Sweet.

Get The Story Right!

I'm reading "Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming The Unseen Forces That Stand In The Way of True Inspiration" by Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation. A couple takeaways so far:

"I believe that managers must loosen the controls, not tighten them. They must accept risk; they must trust the people they work with and strive to clear the path for them, and always, they must pay attention to and engage with anything that creates fear."

"This book. . .is about the ongoing work of paying attention—of leading by being self-aware. . ."

"Story is King and trust the process."

"For all the care you put into artistry, visual polish frequently doesn't matter if you are getting the story right."

[if you do animation right] "It's not just lines on paper anymore; it's a living, feeling entity."

On the other hand. . .

"It's just lines on paper, folks."
