Lessons Learned And A Severe Case of Restless Leg Syndrom

 September 23, 2026

Here's what I have learned, so far. Being creative is its own reward. Alfred Hitchcock believed that happiness was not pleasure or excitement, but emotional clarity, peace and the ability to create without interference. He called his happy spot "a clear horizon" with nothing to worry about, only the pursuit of creativity. I really, really like this.

The first time I can remember seeing someone with restless leg syndrome was in Mr. Zubeck's math class at MCUHS in 1964. The leg in question belonged to Rick Ridenour and he just had his leg moving up and down to beat the band. Yesterday, after a doctor's appointment down in Scottsdale I dropped in to Chompies for lunch and as I sat waiting for my order, I noticed this guy at an adjacent table with his leg going crazy, up and down, up and down, over and over. When my order came, a turkey rueben on rye, I forgot about him for a minute or two, but then when I glanced over again he was still going strong. So, then I became intrigued. Will he stop when his food comes? No, he did not. Is he going to do this for the entire lunch? Yes, pretty much.

Mister Restless Leg Syndrome

(Yes, I blacked out his eyes and added the squiggles to show you which leg was going to town)

As For Succes

In the end, it's not talent, it's endurance. Better late than never, so to speak. Someone else, who knew about success and fame, put it this way:

Fame Is A Disaster for The Creative Artist

"He couldn't handle his fame. . .he was a serious person. Quiet and introverted. He couldn't live with the public image of himself. People expected him to get up and be a clown on stage."

—Lawrence Ferlinghetti, on Jack Kerouac

I would be telling a giant story if I said I understand what you are talking about. I do however, understand restless leg syndrome but only at night when I want so badly to go to sleep.
