Our great friend and Cave Creek legend, Lew Jones, has passed. He was 85. We had a long history together. He opened Tara's Mineshaft Restaurant in the nineties, named for the love of his life Tara Laman, and thanks to them both we did The Jones & Boze Radio Show live from the Mineshaft five days a week starting in 1996. He was the real deal. And he was quite generous. He gave my son, Thomas Charles, his first job, raking the driveway of the Mineshaft. Here is an early photo of Lew when he first arrived in Cave Creek on horseback, surveying his future domain.
Sorry, this isn't Lew, but I can't find the tons of great photos I have of him and I think at the end of the day, he would appreciate the humor of him in a pith helmet. I promise to find real photos of our friend. He was one of the things that made Cave Creek so special.
Okay, I found this photo of Tara and Lew and it's not the best shot, because he could be a tad grumpy. ha.
