Happy Cinco de Mayo Mamacita!

 May 5, 2025

Here's to all you Cinco-de-Mayers out there!

"Old Vaqueros Getting All Cinco"

So fascinating that Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal here than it is in Mexico.

Irony of Ironies: while Cinco de Mayo is a purely Mexican holiday—and a celebration of an obscure battle—it has been adopted by the U.S. and is a bigger deal here because Mexican food restaurants and beer companies went after the U.S. hispanic market in the 1980s and it caught hold. Big time!

And, yes, part of it was the beer and part of it was something else:

Daily Whip Out:

"Cinco de Mayo Mamacita!"

Long live Mexican mamacitas, especial one Salma Hayek!

One more Cinco riff and I will be finished, I promise. . .

"Viva Cinco de Mayo y Uno de Quatro!"
(translation: Long live Uno who is parked in front of four giant sagauros on the fifth of May)

"Between the weak who have no reason to win and the strong who have no excuse to lose, the victory is sure to belong to the brave."

—Benito Juarez
