An Open Road at Sunrise

 April 15, 2024

A famous writer once compared the old time cow-boys of Cochise County to "land-locked pirates" and that image has always stuck with me.

Daily Reworked Whip Out:
"Land-locked Pirates of The Sierra Madre"

Daily Whip Out: "The Neutron Flash"

I sent this scratchboard to my grandson and asked him what The Neutron Flash would do with his powers?

"He'll use his neutron powers to take control of human minds to enslave them and transform the planet into a gigantic industry to fuel his intergalactic wealth!"

—Weston B., age 10

In the latest issue of True West magazine we asked one of my Kingman compadres to describe a perfect day and he responded in "What History Has Taught Me."

The Open Road at Sunrise

Daily Whip Out: "Leaving Kingman at 4 a.m."

"To me a perfect day is the open road at sunrise, discovering a little diner where the coffee is hot and the pie is fresh, and closing it out with a cold beer and lively conversation with old friends."

—Jim Hinckly, author of 22 books on Route 66

  1. Great quotes. Great artwork. Speaking of pirates, any folks we know of with eyepatches back then? I'm sure I've seen a photo of somebody with one, but I can't picture who that was. I guess sometimes my mind's eye has a patch over it!
