Last Friday, Stuart Rosebrook and I drove down to the Canoa Ranch in Green Valley, Arizona to meet historian Greg Scott, who took us to the approximate site where William Rude (also styled as Rood and Rhodes) stood off 100 Apaches in a mesquite thicket in 1861. I have always believed that if you are ever going to understand an historic event you have to walk where they walked, and this is as close to heaven as it gets for me.
