Still scratching away trying to get down to bedrock in Lady Land.
Daily Scratchboard Whip Out:
"The Rustling of Skirts"
I'm also finding more great photographs for the book and others I'd like to illustrate, like this fine little, rifle toting woman.
And, this one is a must:
Someone sent me this classic little beaut.
And another sent me this biker babe.
But of course, I can't run all the authentic Western women I'd like to, at least in the first volume.
Of course, I get "authentic" Old West photos sent to me all the time and, invariably, the sender wants me to authenticate who they think it is. For example, this is owned by someone who thinks this is Josephine Earp.
A total lack of provenance and not one ounce
of discretion on my part
But I couldn't resist.
"A person is always startled when he hears himself seriously called an old man for the first time."
—Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
Regarding the Holmes quote: I felt truly old for the first time some years ago when I worked at a now-defunct bookstore. "Born to Run" was playing on a radio in the backroom. I started gushing at length about what a great song it was. The young girl I was working with looked at me and said "What are talking about?" "This song that's playing." "Oh. I think my dad listens to this." Ouch. So much for being hip (not that I ever was).ReplyDelete
I recently engaged in a rather animated, but amicable debate with my 40 year old daughter in law. After acquiescing to my flawless reasoning she replied, "you still have some fight left in you old man". Which left me feeling like the half witted Olympian who was so proud of the gold medal that he had won that he had it bronzed!ReplyDelete
