Really a hot one today. First blast of Zonie heat. Took Kathy to the airport at eight. She's off on a ten-week semester at sea cruise. She's going all the way from Ensenada, Mexico, down to Chile, then back up the Pacific Coast, hitting all the hotspots. She's the therapist for the entire boat of crazed college students. I just got a call from her (3:27 P.M.) and she's on the boat. And thrilled.
Meanwhile, I got a phone message from Tommy in Peru saying, "I'm watching 'The Day After Tomorrow' with my host family and eating popcorn. See you in two years."
Funny boy.
Worked last night until around ten on sketches for The Battle of Big Dry Wash. Got some good stuff, most of it from photo reference by my good friend Jim Hatzell:
I scanned two pages but the second won't load. Don't have time to rescan it. I'm on deadline for Classic Gunfights. It goes out the door tomorrow. Gus is rushing to finish the last map. We had great reference from Dr. Sam Palmer. In fact I'm hard pressed to remember having this great of coverage on a fight. All the names, rank, where they stood, where they died, six maps detailing each phase of the fight. Really amazing. More later, need to get it done. Have another illustration of Al Sieber I want to do this afternoon.
I'm batching (Bachelor City) for the next ten weeks, and the house is already a pit. I told Sam I may need to get re-married temporarily to salvage the house.
