Melodic, But In Your Face Informs Jesse James Before The Storm

 January 12, 2023

I read with interest this morning's obit in the The New York Times for the legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, that he more or less invented, or, at least paved the way, for Heavy Metal. Describing his playing style as, "stinging licks and darting leads," the writer, Jim Farber, said Beck's playing was "melodic but in your face." And that, my friends and neighbors, in a phrase describes everything I loved about Jeff Beck and my all-time favorite style of music, Waist-Down Rock.

Meanwhile, remember that damaged ambrotype of the teenaged Jesse James I had Dan The Man clean up yesterday? Here's where I am taking that.

Daily Whip Out:

"Jesse James Before The Storm"

A little Mona Lisa and a whole lot of George-Hendrik Breitner ("Moonlight")
